On 9 November 2020, Ambassador Peter Reuss and the Assistant Director-General for Education, Mrs Stefania Giannini, signed an agreement on German funding for the annual UNESCO Global Education Monitoring Report. The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development is endowing a total of € 300,000 for the years 2021 and 2022.

The Global Education Monitoring Report is published annually and has been financially supported by the German Government since 2003. It evaluates the progress made in implementing  the Global Sustainable Goal 4: “to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all”. UNESCO coordinates the implementation of this goal and is responsible for monitoring. In 2021, the Global Education Monitoring Report will deal with the role of non-state actors in education systems; in 2022, with technology, innovation and the future of education.
