On 11 February 2026, Kerstin Pürschel, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to UNESCO, invited UNESCO ambassadors from all regions of the world to a guided tour of the Fondation Louis Vuitton. The programme included the large retrospective of the German painter Gerhard Richter.

In an intimate setting, guided tours in French and English gave guests a concentrated insight into the work of one of the most important international contemporary artists. The exhibition combines central works from several decades and shows the extraordinary range of Richter’s work - from photographically influenced paintings to large-format abstract works.

Gerhard Richter was born in Dresden in 1932 and is one of the most influential artists of the post-war period. His work oscillates between representational and abstract painting and deals with questions of memory, perception and reality.

The exclusive visit offered the opportunity to discover German contemporary art and German history in the 20th century and personal exchange. The invitation underlined the unifying power of art and culture in the multilateral context of UNESCO.
